Burst Test
Burst Test
A burst test is a destructive test and performed to determine the pressure overload capacity of pressure containing parts. The tests are performed with a fluid.
This test is often performed as a pre-production test to meet safety and quality standards. To verify the reliability of products its good to determine the margin between the max. working pressure and the pressure when the product completely fails (burst pressure). Especially for products where failure is not an option the burst test is performed in the pre-production phase and often the test is performed periodically on parts out of production.
Goal of the burst test
- To determine the max. burst pressure
- To determine the safety factor specified in applicable standards
- To determine the failure mode
- Confirmation of the designing margin of the product
