Stone or rock are natural substances consisting of minerals from the earth's crust. The pressure and heat exerted on these minerals over many years as they move upwards from the earth's core towards the earth's crust, gives rise to stone and rock. Steentypes include granite, marble, limestone and slate.

The use of stone

Areas where these minerals are found and extracted are known as quarries. Stone types are used as building materials, also by combining them with concrete in order to build stronger structures. It is also used to make paving, and even asphalt roads are a combination of stone material and tar.
