Stone or rock is a natural substance composed of minerals that are found in the earth’s crust. It is formed through heat and pressure experienced over many years as minerals from the earth’s core have been pushed up into the crust. Types of stone include granite, marble, limestone, and slate.
Areas where minerals have been pushed up through the earth’s crust become known as quarries and are mined to extract them as raw material for further processing. Stone is used as a building material by combining it with concrete to add strength to the construction. It is also used to make paving stones and even roads through combining it with tar.
